The start of summer veggies...

This year we are starting small. Here is my beginner garden. Just a few key veggies- cucumbers, tomatos, and peppers. Starting off it will be easier to grow your vegetables in containers- this way you do not have to concern yourself with the makeup of local soil (pH balance, etc) and can focus on the basics of tending to your garden. And take the easy route- start with seedlings or starter plants. Growing from seed is a challenge you can save for next year. I've selected my starter plants based on the demand in my own kitcken, as well as what will do well in the containers. My tomato plant is a "Better Bush"- a determinate variety (meaning that it will not need to be staked), so I won't need to worry about the weight of the fruit on a vine. Cucumbers can be staked easily and peppers are a breeze. Looking forward to some fresh veggies in a couple of months.
